Seasonal Treasures offers works by student choreographers that is fresh, engaging and sometimes edgy, but always danced with an esprit de corps that only UA Dance Ensemble can bring to our stage. This year, the students will team up with faculty choreographers such as Amy Ernst, who is planning a solo for a member of the UA Dance Ensemble. Also presented will be the premier of UNTITLED (Fill in the Blank), a new work featuring a collaboration between Douglas Nielsen (UA Dance) and Kyle Maxwell-Doherty (UA Music) in honor of the 100th birthday of American composer John Cage (1912-1992) and his rich collaboration with choregographer and life partner, Merce Cunningham (1919-2009).
One of the most promient and encompassing fascinations to both Cage and Cunningham was the element of chance. UNTITLED (Fill in the Blank) will in investigate the chance element by having an audience member decide the sequence of the music and the choreography every night before the dance is performed! Other elements such as lighting, projections, costumes, and a title--will also be subject to chance.
